At the real estate company Unibail-Rodamco, the company behind Mall of Scandinavia, employees get the chance to build the mall of tomorrow. Lill Wahlström and Malin Frögelius talk about many responsibilities, which are present early on, and international career possibilities.

Annons

Unibail-Rodamco is Europe’s leading listed commercial property company specialised in shopping centres. With more than 70 shopping locations around Europe, nine of which are in the Nordic countries, Mall of Scandinavia is the largest and most impressive facility so far. With over 101 000 square meters, 22 restaurants, 224 stores and Sweden’s first commercial IMAX theater, it is Scandinavia’s largest mall and includes Stockholm’s largest restaurant area.

”Many responsibilities from the start”
One of the many employees who helped build Mall of Scandinavia is Malin Frögelius. Malin became a civil engineer last summer and is now enrolled in Unibail-Rodamco’s global trainee program European Graduate Programme. During the course of twelve months, she gets to try out different job rotations within the organisation, both within and outside Sweden.
– I first heard of Unibail-Rodamco through their business game for students at one of KTH’s career fairs. I started out in Stockholm and worked my way to the head office in France were I competed against students from all over Europe. Eventually I was accepted as a participant in the trainee program. Last summer I started my first position as Development Analyst of Mall of Scandinavia. I came in at the end of the project, but received many responsibilities early on. My main responsibility was the development of several functions in the mall. I feel so proud when I see people walking through the mall that I helped develop, says Malin.

Malls over all of Europe with ”4 star services”
The purpose of the European Graduate Programme is to help the participants to get to know Unibail-Rodamco and their national and international employees. Lill Wahlström previously participated in the trainee program after graduating from Stockholm School of Economics. Her strongest memory is working with the ”4 star services” concept in the head office in Paris, a concept that is all about offering high quality in every aspects of the shopping experience.
– Unibail-Rodamco rates their malls just like hotels. To achieve a four-star rank, over 600 quality factors are taken into account. It could be almost everything like if there is a staffed reception or not, or if one of our latest concepts, ”Click & Services”, exists – a new concept which offers our customers the ability to pay and order products online before collecting or enjoying them in a physical store of the retailer. My job was to support colleagues around Europe who work with implementing the four-star rank into more of our malls and to evolve the concept at our head office, says Lill who today works as Operation Analyst for the mall in Solna centrum.

Investing in the future
Both Malin and Lill quickly worked their way up to leading positions at Unibail-Rodamco, even though they are at the beginning of their careers. The fact that they were able to do so combined with the fact that they work at a cutting edge company makes it a pleasure to go to work everyday.
– It is inspiring to get to work with the best in business; we really are a leading company development wise. Just look at Mall of Scandinavia, we have developed a mall that is completely new on the Swedish market. We offer unique experiences, such as shops that have not been available to Sweden earlier and Sweden’s first IMAX-theater, says Malin and Lill continues:
– It is incredibly inspiring to work here, and I am more than happy to discuss my job. Especially our malls, since everyone can relate to them!
